EMPLOYERS
The outbreak of Corona Virus has created uncertainties for both employers and employees alike. It means that many employers will have to close their businesses in compliance with government protocol. If employers are to do so, it will affect many of their employees and their ability to continue to provide them with wages. The government has undertaken to provide help for employers who wish to retain their employees in these difficult times. It has introduced what is known as a Job Retention Scheme. This 'Scheme' makes provision for 80% of employee's wages to be paid by the government up to 2500 for each employee. Those employees who are selected to be 'furloughed' will be asked to stay at home by their employers yet they will be paid 80% of their wages each month.
If you are an employer you will want to ensure that you select those employees who will have to stay at home fairly so that you do not fall foul of employment laws and are not found to be in breach of them.
If you are an employer and you require help to write 'furlough' agreements for your staff then please contact us.

EMPLOYEES
Those employed will also largely become affected by the government's 'stay at home' protocol.
As an employee you will be wondering what rights you do have (if any). You will want to know if your employer can legally ask you to stay at home without pay, or make you redundant or change your contract hours.
Your employer may have provided you with a new contract which you will be asked to sign. You are advised to contact us for advice before signing any new agreements with your employer.
